Just about doing the same thing in the near future.
Other shape of metal tube in mind though.

Cannot imagine that Porsche chair is quite stable seeing the design.
But tht could well be the trick here too.

To put in front of the chair you could use a nice cleaned old (Porsche) engine
to put in front of the chair (like on Top Gear)

I agree with the stability comment above. it looks like if you lean forward it will tip. here's mine that was (almost) free. the seat was from my club racing days and the base was from a damaged office chair. i made the arms myself. I also have a 71 911 seat in the garage on a 4x4 frame - not quite as fancy as the above but very comfortable...

I plan to do something similar. My stock 993 seats might become a loveseat type thing on a desk chair, using a standard bottom.
