Default OT: McQueen's 911S for Auction Friday. What will the winning bid be?

The uber cool Steve McQueen's 1970 911S for auction this weekend at Monterey:

I say it sells for ..... $275,000 WAG, but then I am clueless.

Given that their estimates, DryFly, I think you are going to be a bit low.
Estimate:
$950,000-$1,350,000 US

I'm going to say... $993,000

Someone a track friend of mine works with is interested in the car. And those "in the know" seem to expect (as above) this being the first seven figure 911. Ugh.

Because I remember when cars were appreciated for what they were, and not reduced to an asset? Free market, spend it how you see fit, etc etc, but when you're 10-12X beyond what the similar blob of metal that led a normal life is worth............well, it's lost on me. This is NOT a race car.

OK, that's understandable. My main problem with this specimen, for that kind of money, is that it has been resprayed and TMU. Also noticed a funny typo in the description

I would imagine the conventional wisdom at play here is TMU and a respray matters little when it's Steve McQueen's. Those things don't factor in, when the provenance is what this particular car's is.

I'd say Pretty close to a Million.

How about $999,900.00

I stood next to that car. Don't think I sat in it though. I might have. Hmmmm.... I probably did, but didn't think anything of it at the time. I was too busy working to think about getting into it just to be able to say I did.

I think it's time for me to go to bed. I'm rambling. Been a looong day. Night guys.

Default Well over $950K

The low estimate (often the reserve) provided by the auction company is $950K which I read somewhere is slightly more than twice the amount the seller of the car paid for it. The seller/vendor is an experienced car dealer and collector.

When McQueen's Ferrari Lusso sold, a comparable example with no McQueen history was worth $600K and McQueen's Lusso sold for about 4 times that amount.

So applying the McQueen 4X multiple to the 911S, let's say an excellent 911S sold at a high-end auction is $120K so multiply that by 4 and you get $480K. Then multiply by the Lemans movie factor (2x) for another $480K and you get $960K.

Then subtract for 60,000 early 911 Porsches versus the 350 Lussos made and factor in the apparent reserve of $900-950K and I would guess it will sell for $950,000 -1,000,000, however I suppose it could easily surpass $1,000,000.

Just two years ago, McQueen's Rolex Submariner (5512) watch sold for $234,000.

Agree. I get tires of hearing about cars for sale the Seinfeld owned, sat it, touched, etc. That means nothing to me.

This car was for sale in Hemmings Motor News for $15K in the late 80's and I remember looking at the ad and thinking ... Hell, that's RS money ..

If I had $1B I would pay $1M for this car. But since I have a bit less than that in my car budget I'm not interested.
