Default Oil in my intake, downstream of Throttle Body

While working on my 1995 993 today I removed my right bank intake, downstream of the throttle body and found what seems like a lot of oil in there. i expect this to be dirty, but not oily. What's happening? I don't understand this.

Hi,

Generally speaking, the main reasons for finding oil in the intake system is:

1) Overfilled oil tank (this one is very common)

2) An engine problem such as broken rings or a piston issue. One usually performs a leakdown test to check engine health.

The bottom line is that it really depends on how much oil you see in there. A little is somewhat normal since the oil tank is vented to the intake manifold as part of the PCV system and vapors are deposited on the walls inside the manifolds.

OK, that makes me feel better! Thanks Steve! Engine is very strong, so no ring damage to be concerned about. Also, engine uses very little oil! I just wasn't expecting any oil in there.

No worries,..its most likely that somebody slightly over filled the tank and it pushed the excess into the intake manifold.

Have a leakdown test down annually to track the health of the engine.

Can someone advise if the oil tanks vents anywhere else but the intake? I've developed an oil leak that seems to run down the drivers side of the motor where the engine and tranny go together. I thought it was from removing my SAI pump, but I have replaced all the bolts and now it seems worse. This began after removing the SAI system and finding what seemed like a lot of oil in my intake.

I realize now I overfilled the oil tank and the excess has vented thru the intake. This leak began when I did a major service, including SAI removal and the oil change. Any ideas where this oil is coming from?
