Default Are aftermarket bumper covers any good?

I'm nearing resolution of my insurance fiasco and so am researching bumper cover options. I really want the Euro turbo one. I don't like the splitters on my non-turbo, US version and, of course, I really hate the bumperettes. I see several fiberglass versions on eBay. Are they any good? Do they require modification to fit and do they hold up?

in general, any fiberglass part will need effort to fit, not to mention are more fragile. They are less expensive, but I think in the long run, they end up costing you more due to labor and fixing.

I would recommend just getting a OEM Euro bumper and be done with it.

Well, I'm not set on aftermarker, but I am pretty set on a Euro turbo version. I really don't like my splitters and would like to ditch them. Can't do that with a non-turbo version, AFAIK.

I just bought a aftermarket glass fiber turbo front bumper for my 993 Targa. Looked great, but lacks originality for the air intake on both undersides. It was made off wire mess instead and looks like ****. The fit was so and so…had to test mount it several times, make new holes and use a lot off violens to get it right. I found it on E-bay Germany for less than 450$, but had to buy a lot off additional stuff from Porsche center to have it complete.
I will highly recommend to go for a OEM part…since it will fit right on without hazel, and in the end it will only be 20% more expensive. Look for a used one….

Sunset's latest price for a Euro turbo front bumpercover was $1321 and change. Shipping to the East coast was VERY expensive, but your so close I imagine it would be reasonable.

My local Porsche dealer actually matched Sunset's prices on everything I needed, it saved me a bundle. Can't hurt to lean hard on your local dealer.

Don't forget to fill the license plate holes on the new bumper too. It's a beautiful look.

Good luck

There are aftermarket non-fiberglass bumpers available, they are made from the same material as the original (polyurethane i think). I got one for the front of my car a number of years back and it is perfect, the body guy that did the work said the quality was excellent.

I will try and track down where it came from, I have a feeling though the vendor is out of business now

Just finished adding the RS Splitters (and RS Tail) to my stock front bumper, they are Poly and with a little (expected) grinding with a Dremel they fit beautifully. Big improvement. I also had the bumperettes filled in at the same time.

Closer yet to the NE folks Hennessy Porsche in Atlanta offers the same discount. I've been buying from them due to shipping times/expense. They're closer to the source of the parts too. Nothing at all against Sunset, they're outstanding too, but for those of us closer to the right coast shipping does take longer.

Fiberglass is very fragile. It has no elasticity whatsoever and cracks easily. I would avoid putting FG body panels on a street car unless it's a wing.

Definitely a +1 on that, they crack very easily.

I purchased a set of the Duraflex RS side skirts from Extreme Dimensions last year around Halloween : http://www.duraflexbodykits.com/sear...de-skirts.html

To install them, would have required a body shop, and a decent amount of work. while initially cheaper, unless I could do the work myself, it would have been far more in the long run. The product itself seemed pretty strong, I just did not want to hassle with all the body work. so I returned them...with no hassle BTW.

If you do the body work yourself, through painting and installation, I don't think the product is all that bad. Ultimately it was FAR easier for me to purchase the GT3Tek skirts and install them out of the box.

Hey Rick,

I echo that fiberglass is a bad choice for a bumper (I fitted a fg tea-tray wing on the SC and these things have zero give ...as a bumper you'd crack it just by looking at it funny). Sorry can't be of much help except to echo that ...but I did PM you a wholly different question

Edward
