Default '97 C2 Minimal Upgrade Recommendation...

All,

I'd like to keep car stock for now. What should I add as a minimal upgrade (most bang for the buck) to this beauty to maybe tighten things up? F/R stress bar?

TIA,

sjsfiji

At a minimum, replace your original shocks which are probably worn out and leaking. Next step after that is springs (do them both at the same time if you can afford it). Those are by far the biggest bang for the buck. You could also add a strut brace but that would be wasting your money unless you're tracking the car, IMO.

suspension...definately, regardless of miles. Also, replace your front control arm bushings with those from Chris Walrod. Consider solid motor mounts also, either RS or Wevo.

Huge, HUGE, improvement. It simply will not feel like the same car.

+l on this advice. The bushings from Chris are money well spent. Even at 47k miles mine were shot.

Funny how this has never changed since the first 911 rolled off the line--shocks matched to the spring rate, good tires, and once they got to be ~10 years old new bushings. And then an alignment by someone who knows what he's doing...........

And I'm a sucker for sport seats, whatever the generation.

Ditto on the above....HOWEVER, drive the car for a while. That way when you make a change, you'll really experience it. I went form M030 R0W suspension to PSS 9 suspension. I really couldn't tell the difference EXCEPT that the PSS 9 shocks were adjustable, could go full soft if I wanted to, never did.

Research the tires....some tires are bloody loud, who needs that?

Sport seats are sweet, but hard to come by.

Lots of Rennlisters like to change the sound, a cheap mod, and nice on the ears. Me, I have tried most mufflers, and now have FD Motorsports Mufflers. Check out their web site. They also sell the Chris Walrod bushings.

Remember, everything you do is a trade off. Want those 18" low profile tires? They look very racy!!! If you are driving the car on less than perfect roads, those low profile, example 285/30/18 tires, they'll beat you to death.

And lastly, if you have aspirations to go to the track, there is a list of mods that transform the car, for the track. They don't do much for the car for the street.

Take it slow and easy is what I'd recommend.

Thanks to all for the very informative advice. I've read some other suspension parts such as drop links, camber something or other, etc... What are they for, just track use for adjustability? TIA... sjsfiji

I would also recommend you get with the Rennlisters in the SF area--there are several here on a regualr basis. I sold a set of Mille Miligas to a guy in the area. That way you can discuss and view the different mods--maybe even snag a test drive.

Good luck.

How does one contact Chris Walrod about these bushings? I searched and he doesn't seem to have a website.
Thanks.

you can just search for one of his posts, then click on his name and send him a PM, but keep in mind Chris travels a lot AND has a small child at home AND gets tons of email, so just be patient. OR you can just get them from FD Motorsports, which does have a website: http://fdmotorsports.net/index.htm

I've kept mine stock and have owned it almost two years.

Take it for a good spirited drive. How does it feel and then decide. I would say good tires if yours are old and/or worn.

I'd sort out the need-to-do things first, like fresh fluids, all filters, belts and other maintenance items.
