Default Is this a good deal for a 996

I know we are the 993 brethren, but this sounds cheap. All the 996 bias' aside and if all the service is done......

EDIT: Don't know anything about the car except seeing it on Craigslist

Well there ya go. Don't know the first thing about these cars. I guess I'm just used to 993 prices.

Porsche 911 REDUCED PRICE - $19499 (Bellevue)
1999 Porsche 911 Carrera priced nearly 3k below blue book value! Just reduced the price, as I've just bought a Turbo. This car is in GREAT condition. Maintained religiously by Wickie Lawrie at Renntagg Autowerks. 125k miles, but looks like 25k miles on it. New tires and brakes. New leather inside in 2010. Just a great car. Tiptronic (automatic/manual). Call 615-478-9056 or email me and come test drive this beauty! More photos available upon request.
What do you do to a Pcar to require "new leather" after only 11 years??? Or is the leather as cheap as the dashboard buttons that crack and peel apart?

Yes, the interiors are that cheap. Frankly, the 993 leather is cheap in comparison to the 964 or earlier cars. (Based on how I viewed the "average" car at 5-7 years old.)

Now, onto the price of this car. I was offered similar earlier this year in a C4 for $15K. Then the price fell further. Wasn't even good enough for me to pick up as a ski car, and keep the abuse off the 4S. I heard it got traded in for about that amount, but as always they can jerk with the numbers based on what you're buying. I'd guess real value is in the $12-13K range. And then what happens when the engine goes "boom"? You've got as much into it as a decent mid-mileage '03, if 996s float your boat.

That front end just could not be any uglier! As great as people say they are even for a beater I wouldn't be able to concentrate knowing the engine could disintegrate at any moment.

the 996 just rides harsh.

if it is not a 996 GT3, it is just cheap porsche transportation until you can afford to step up to 993 or 997.

there is a market for that.

Really? Most experienced p-car drivers find them very soft riding and describe them as being too GT like.

I think I'm off of one hand now on the number of M96 engines I've seen internally fail at the track. It HAS been over 12 years now, though. I believe the first one was my friend's on her ~25K '99 996. I knew NOTHING (and still know practically nothing) about M96's at the time. What I did find out was that whatever coolant Porsche used in the things did a wonderful job on the floor of my trailer as I had the job of dragging the carcass home.

Aren't even the makers of the intermediate shaft bearing repair conservatively calling it a maintenance item to be addressed every 60K?

I sold this one for $18k with 92k miles. It did need a front bumper respray/repair though.

I think I'm in the middle of the love/hate 996 dilemma. I've had a couple (this one and an '04 C4S) and yes the performance is better than any 911 that came before it. But I always feel "meh" after drving one.
