So Cal - 993 service center recommendation
Hey All,
I'm new to Rennlist and the 993 world . . . .switching gears from my 06 R53 to (hopefully) a 96' 993
Looking for feedback on an honest service center in the So Cal Southbay area (Torrance, Redondo Bch, PV). Planning on PPI (pre-purchase inspection) and a catchall service (once I pick out my new obsession).
- any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Arredondo Motorsports is located in Torrance at 1914 W. Del Amo Blvd. His number is 310-787-7001.
Callas Rennsport is in Torrance at 19080 Hawthorne Blvd. Their number is 310-370-7038.
Either place will give you an EXTREMELY thorough PPI, outlining each and every area of concern. If you call Art, make sure to tell him Mike sent you.

I recently went to Rob @ Dutch Treat for clutch job and some other minor stuff. On Inglewood just south of Manhattan Beach Blvd. Great experience. Will be going back.

I have been using Art Arredondo of Arredondo Motorsports ever since I bought my car. VERY honest, VERY knowledgable and VERY reasonably priced. He used to work at Callas Rennsport (where he was working when he first worked on my car) which is another great shop that I'm sure people will recommend.

I have been going to Lomita 911 on 253rd for over 20 years.
Last Saturday I went to Art's open house at Mike's invitation. I saw a lot of familiar faces there, Richard Clewett of Clewett Engineering (see Excellence), Darin of West End Alignment, who we all know and love, Kenny from AutoWerkstedt (sp?) as well as Mike. Point, is he has the support of many local South Bay Porsche experts that are also supported by RLers.
I spoke with Art and was very impressed. his experience and years with Callas have obviously given him great knowledge. I will be taking my 993 for an oil change to give him a go.
Plus the Tacos were the bomb!
You can't go wrong with Tony Callas. Outside of the factory, there probably aren't many people more knowledgeable or thorough as Tony.

Tom Prine and Tony are handling the tech column in Excellence since Jim Pasha's departure. I just finished reading an awesome article on at least 3(!) different retrofit RMS seals that you can put in your M96-97 engine.

So many great choices in ....
...the South Bay. I have known Tony Callas for years. His 993 Tech Sessions are legendary...this guy is a treasure. I had some work done on my car there...after the job, Tony gave me a ride in my car, around the back streets of Torrance. Let's just say that it was better than a world class amusement park thrill ride.
His and his colleague Tom's contribution the the 993 Porsche body of knowledge, second to none.

Everyone know who I absolutely love. My Avatar was taken at the shop last time we were in Torrance.
I took many rides with Tony ~~~ ALL were quite eventful, even the one's in rental vans during race week.

Martin, Joanne,
do either of you remember when Tony had Joel's GT1 at the shop? I was getting my SC suspension done by Darin when he was still working for Steve Alarcon. Steve showed me his 964 Cup Car (then we walked down to Tony's to check out the GT1. That was certainly a memorable day.

Do I know it? I was in it! I got to stare at it all day long when we weren't on the road. :-) I'll find a picture of it somewhere and post it up later. Joel Sold it a while back. What a toy that was, huh?
Back to the subject: Art Arredondo is also a good mechanic. He's also really a good guy and was with Tony for years and years and learn a LOT during that time. I don't know the details of their parting, but I do know that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do for what you think is best for your family, and that's what Art did. He's still a good mechanic no matter where he's working at, and as someone said, the Taco's? Unbelievable. Wait till you get to try the Tamale's!!!
