Question 993 Buying Help

I may have found a 993 C2 to replace my 964 that was totaled in the tornado. I have had a PPI by Kurt at Marque Motors in Portland, Or.
Here is the good stuff. Price is $29,000, with 75 K on it. Interior is in very good condition and the paint is also pretty good. He said it drives very good and handles well. It had the top end done at K miles( valve grind new springs guilds etc. $K+) and a new clutch at K miles(standard Porsche model). The tires have about 85%(PS2s) life left, and the brakes 65%. Compression is between 220 and 230 on all cylinders. the engine runs very smooth. It appears to him to have been a well care for car and not abused. There are no modifications.
Now the down side. It has been in 2 minor accidents. One the car was rear ended at low speed, the other it was backed in to a car in a parking lot. There is no frame or viewable body damage. How ever the left bumper support is broken and the left rear side marker is not working. Also about 1/2 of the 3erd brake light LEDs are out. Oil always an issue. Both chain housing have a little oil weep, and the right side of the oil cooler is wet. There is not "leaking" noted. The spark plug wires are cracked and will need to be replaced$$$. It also need to be serviced. There is one viewable problem with the body the right front. A bracket is broken with the resultant defect.
So what do you think? I have posted a few pics.

What year? Who's the seller? What options (They should be able to identify them from the sticker under the hood) This will help. Sound OK with a couple of the big worries taken care of, if done well (compression ##s suggest they were) and PPI is pretty good. But does not scream "BUY now" to me.

I'll have a go!

I'm hoping the PPI was not done by the selling dealer. If it was, get one from another source.

1. I can't tell at what mileage the topend was done but having it done by a known shop is a bonus.

2. The accident history wouldn't bother me too much as long as it was relatively minor and everything was put right with little to no evidence. Sounds like it may need some work in this department.

3. Oil leaks. Although common with 911s, it is something you will want to address and it should be done before you buy the car or factored into the price. Valve cover gaskets are fairly simple, chain cover gaskets not so much.

4. Plug wires/service items etc. I always like to start off with a complete major service. Done by seller is good otherwise consider cost in your purchase price. Including wires, this is fairly pricey.

5. Car has non-standard for this model Targa wheels. Honestly not much of an issue at all. Heck I think someone here is looking for a set if you want to change.

All in all it sounds like a reasonable car with issues that you would expect on a 15 year old, 75000mile car. If it had all problems addressed, $29K would be quite reasonable. As is, I'd suggest offering $25K.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Its a 96. inch wheels 8 way power driver seat 4 way power passenger. Alpine sound system. Sun Roof-glass. Has all service records. Pretty standard set-up. Its at Freeman Motor Co Portland Or. All major work was done at Dealerships clutch at 35K and the top end at 50K. The 1st repair was done at a Porsche approved shop and the second at an indi. The PPI was done by an independent shop, which I checked out here. I was give high marks.

I'd concur with Tim's assessment. I paid about that with 62K, and none of the needs or wreck history last Dec.

So looks like it has Targa wheels because it's a Targa. These have their own issues with the roof that you may want to search. Other than that, lightly optioned with aftermarket stereo. I would get an estimate from the independent on how much to fix the wires, leaks/weeps and then decide what you want to offer. Tim's ## make sense.

clearly not a targa (as seen in the first pic)...but the rims can be changed once you start down the slippery slope (resistance is futile)...as far as the price considering the previous issues...honestly if you wait you can find better if that is your budget...if it was me, I would offer $24 and go from there...

It's a 96 so no basket handle and the pic clearly shows a coupe. The "sunroof-glass" description was probably from a later description of the "sunroof" option code (650). I've seen this a few times as Porsche uses the same option code number for cars despite having slightly different content.

The buyer's description of the sunroof threw me off when added to the wheels. Should have looked more closely at the pictures.

Looks nice but needs a little work. I like the Targa wheels and what looks like optional shifter and e-brake. I'd either wait a bit for a better car from rennlister or other other ... or offer these guys $24K and shoot for $25-26K--that'd be my ceiling with the accident history. Factor in a few grand for regular maintenance, ect. -- and I'd suggest M030 or M033 springs--get rid of SUV height and makes the Targa wheels look great. GL!

freeman and the other so called "high end" used car salesmen in the area have a mixed inventory, as you can imagine. this one isn't worth the asking cash, but that's my opinion.

Looks like it had a front bumper re-spray? Looks off color in the pics.
