I first became aware of the Great Sand Dunes National Park when flying over the Rockies:
Saw what looked like part of Egypt below, magically transplanted not only to the U.S., but next to snow-topped mountains!

30 square miles of dunes almost 1,000 feet tall.
Thank goodness for Porschephiles; without them, I never would have gotten around to seeing the dunes at eye level
