Default New Optima Redtop

My old battery gave up the ghost, so I got around to installing my new Optima this evening-one handed, as my good arm is still out of commission.

Optima 34R, model 8003-151, which has the reverse poles. Fits right in, but you need to use their mount as the stock clamp won't work. Needed an 8mm X 30mm long bolt for the new clamp.

I put a Battery Tender quick connect cable on too, for maintainance. The toughest part was reconfiguring (flattening) the pre-formed + cable. Again, one-handed. I put my vice in the boot, and used it as a press to flatten the bend some.

I know some will weigh in on these batteries-I've had one in my 911 for YEARS, with some lulls in usage-never let me down.

When my battery finally dies I am going to replace it with an Optima also.
The only thing I have heard is to make sure they are venting correctly. The best solution I have seen is to use a pencil box, like we used to have for school--the ones which hold about six pencils, and connect the vent tube to the box.

What happened to your arm?

I thought Optima batteries were sealed, "dry" cell batteries and didn't require venting???
