Default New SNELL rating

Hi guys,

Any idea what the new (2011 and on) Nnell rating is? I have a helmet that I think expires for DE this year and would like to replace it. Cheers!

The current one is SA2010 for motorsport use (vehicle) or SAH2010 for vehicle motorsport with a hans device.

Nice car by the way

Snell ratings are updated every 5 years, with the helmets being available in the fall timeframe of that year. Most current Snell ratings are Snell 2010, and the next one will be Snell 2015. Snell ratings come as "M" for motorcycle and "SA" for "Special Applications" (these are for cars). My understanding is that there are two fundamental differences between M and SA: SA are Nomex lined, and SA are tested against multiple impacts vs M which is tested against a single impact. It has been a while since I looked into this, so don't take it as gospel, though.

Steven is 100% correct that you have a nice car. Too bad it isn't silver, though.

Red is always faster.....

Are you going to be at the Porsche DE on the weekend of the 16th at Mosport? I am trying to rearrange my calendar to be there to help out...

According to my research most PCA DE's allow the current rating and the previous version to be used. So I gusss that means the helmet is good for a 10 year period.

Are motorcycle helmets allowed in DE? I'm attending my very first DE event this weekend. Always wore my Arai motorcycle helmet in previous track outings.

You will have to check with your local PCA Chapter for actual rules on which helmets can be worn at a DE. When I was in Chicago Region motorcycle helmets were not authorized. It should be clearly laid out in the tech inspection sheet.

The check list says the follow:

Helmet: Snell (SA or M) 2000/2005/2010

so safe to assume my Snell M helmet made in 2003 is kosher?
can anyone recommend a good SA helmet? bang for the buck

You need to make sure it fits you. G-Force seems to be a good bang for the buck, but was shaped very different that my skull. I think Simpson is shaped similarly. I ended up with a Pyrotect (also a good BFTB, made by Bell, I think).

Yea, I got lucky, the SNELL 2000 expires end of this month, my event is on June 25th, phew.
Agree, fitment is a big issue. Took me forever to find a motorcycle helmet that fit my odd shaped noggin.
