Default A drive through Southern Switzerland

This was a lazy Sunday morning drive I took some time back with Terry Adams (the cameraman...)

Cool, reminds me of some Northern Italian villages, very similar.

Yes, very true... more so up north though... Lots of radar traps up north..

I live in Lugano and the city police are very friendly, I've made friends with a couple, even buy them a capuccino now and then... which saves me parking tickets now and then...

Do you know Vartan with the silver 993RS-ish car?

Unfortunately he wrecked the silver car a while back. His turbo engine is sitting in my friend's shop in Fellbach (Stuttgart). Vartan went with us two years ago on our annual Alps tour.

Oh, I know them all too well.

Looks like you were headed from Arosio to Breno. Those countless switchbacks prior to your start would have been nice to view.

If you ever get a bit further west to Locarno, take the road from Ponte Brolla (560 in CH) to Domodossola (SS337 in I). That road is a treat.

Another good run is from Chiavenna to Splügen over the Splügen Pass. That is just north of Lago di Como.

BTW, its better on a motorcycle.

I am pretty sure we drove that road last year. Would have to look at a map/notes to see all the passes we did, but last year was mostly Switzerland. We got to go into the construction at Gotthard tunnel.

Right! Malcantone. On an early Sunday morning, the road is empty.

Yup, back in 2002. I took the faster main road in 1996 and was able to look down upon the "old" road which was closed at the time, probably for repairs.

This scanned pic is before I went digital. Does that cobble stoned road look familiar?

I stayed in Andermatt both times to ride the Oberalp, Furka, Susten, Nufenen and Gotthard passes. Nearby are the Lukmanier and San Bernardino passes.

I'll be guiding my friend who is joining me again this year (he is hooked ) on a rental motorcycle. This year we'll touch on the Dolomites more, and the Splügen, Maloja, Albula, Julier, Bernina passes in Switzerland just to name a very very few.
