Question Hub carrier removal question

I'm in the middle of replacing both front wheel bearings and woulkd like to remove the hub carriers from the car. The outer ball joint came out fine, but I'm stumped as to how one removes the lower ball joint from the casting. The rear of the hub carrier does not permit access with a regular two-prong puller, and not keen on destroying the ball joint with a fork.

I'm vexed. Please help.

Could you just remove the lower ball joint from the Track Control Arm, and leave it attached to the hub?

I could, but I still need to separate the joint from the carrier.

What do you mean the outer ball joint? The tie rod end?

I use a standard 3 prong puller like this on the lower ball joint. Come from the front, it is a tight fit, but it will go.

I use this type of ball joint press ..... works on all types of suspension links with ball joint ends ..... c heck ebay - there are various styles of this "three finger" press, ranging from $20 up.

Garth,
Always thought I needed one of those and actually ordered one locally today. Should have it tomorrow morning.

Give it to the BFI. He'll get it off for you.

I told you the BFI could get it off. Funny.
