I have a fairly beaten drivers side seat that I want to redo the seat bolsters.
There is an upholstery shop by me that can do the work. I think they just use their foam and custom fit it to the seat. I think they can also clean and recondition the leather.
Is this the right way or should I be ordering factory replacement seat parts.
I have the 8 way adjustable seats full leather.

I would order the factory parts. I did a couple of years ago on a different 993 and they were perfect.
FYI, if you are really tall (like me), the new foam will cause you to sit higher by about an inch.

Make SURE you see documentation in pictures of prior work on Pcar seats. When I see for sale ads with recovered seats, it always looks like they've been poorly done. Go to the shop and view their work in action....if they won't let you see it, walk away. +1 on factory foam....really, would it be worth the difference in cost (i say that not knowing what the cost is...)?

I had the bolsters repaired and recovered on one of my Koenig seats by an independant auto upholsterer. The original pre-cut material to recover was priced at $1500. I got the whole job done with the upholsterer's material (which was better quality than the original), for under $300.

I was investigating the repair of my bolsters of my 993 and considered the Porsche foam only to be told it is no longer available. So I had the bolsters replaced with foam supplied by the upholsterer and the finish looks great.

I had these done from scratch:

I used factory foam and the price of the foam was not unreasonable. (Interestingly, I was told that there were ZERO drivers seat OE foam pads in the world. I used two OE passenger seat foam pads. The bolsters were available, however. This was several years ago.)I believe Chuck's $1,500 is referring to the whole process (including the hide). Nevertheless, the $300 price is a great price for that repair.
