Default Windscreen "rattle"

I took the car out today and for the first time there is a creaking/ rattle type noise coming from multiple parts of the front windscreen. Has anyone else experienced this? It's fairly constant. Tx

There's a TSB technical service bulletin to fix this - you basically insert a 'rope' around the windscreen seal..search is your friend

Mine never squeaked until I had the windshield replaced, now I spray some motorcycle chain oil under the seal once a year or so and it works great. I just noticed yesterday that my rear window may be squeaking also. Time to break out the spray! BTW, the stuff also helps the rattle on the rear hatch of our 944.

Rope works for a while, I then removed it and now use a liquid grease spray, not heard a squeak for 6 months, loads on this as mentioned, search away......

Mine squeaks going up driveways, but not bad at this point. My rear seal not staying in was the problem, but found a flowable silicone that solves this.

I was told by a windshield repair guy to never use chain oils or grease, etc., since it will eventually eat away the rubber seal.

Later on my mechanic also brought it up and said to any such products.

Is this true?

2 choices:

Either the rope, which if installed properly, will eliminate any rattles.

Or Pedro's Ice Wax, which will solve the problem for several months. Some use a silicon spray, but as mentioned above, I'd prefer the rope as I don't wanna keep spraying lube in there ad nauseum.

The rope may be the easiest DIY one can do. It is super simple and easy, and takes about 20 minutes. I did it many months ago, and have never had a rattle since.

Rattle will be back with the rope! I was told that, and 4 or 6 months later, they were right!

How can grease rot rubber? The seal is only cosmetic anyway

Any the grease stop rust too!!

There are many threads on this. Another problem with the construction of our windshields (front and rear) is rust. This is because water gets trapped underneath the rubber seal. I once saw a case (I can't seem to remember where I read this) where the rope installed (as recommended in the TSB) actually helped trap water thus leading to rust even faster than without the rope installed. One solution to this is to remove the windshield and then re-install it using Sikaflex or some other type of bond (not silicone) underneath the rubber seal. In this case you are 100% sure that no water will get in there (since the whole grove is filled) and thereby no rust issues. The drawback with this is that it will be a lot of work when it's time to replace the windshield..
