Default Factory RS shifter ****ting too high in cockpit

Guy's installed factory RS shift kit , had a rod made up , everything seems to shift and work fine, I have searched this but no definitive results , the shifter sits about an inch too high ( closer to the steering wheel ) leather boot is streached to the max ( almost ) since ny shift **** bolts on with an allen bolt not a friction fit, would the simple solution be to just cut 3/4 of inch off the shifter would this affect geometry? or am I talking out my A _ _ Thanks for any and all help

My factory RS shifter sits higher than the old stock one (probably about an inch or so). My leather boot isn't stretched to the max, though. I'll try to find some pics of it and post them for reference. What **** do you have on your car?

If it's anything like the 964 RS shifter, then it sounds like it's in the right place - they do sit higher.

My **** is the 1/2 brushed alum 1/2 polished, large round ****, that has a set screw to seat it to the shaft as opposed to a friction fit, that comes with the C2S package , no issues other than a personal preference for a lower shifter, just don't want to make a stupid or costly mistake Thanks for the help

Shamus 964 , you may be correct my question is the simple solution for me just to pull the **** and cut 3/4 inch off the top of the shift lever to bring it into place ? or would that mess with some geometry ? or am I just blowing smoke? don't want to make a mistake at this point....TIA

To install the RS shift lever, due to the new geometry, you flip the grommets in the shift box 180 degrees which raises the shift lever up. Most like it that way and leave it, but to shorten it simply remove the **** and cut about 3/4" off the top. We do this for customers that request it and it works fine.

Yip. RS shifter sits high. I also use the Tequipment carbon/alloy **** and the boot didnt have much spare when on. My shop removed the ****, dissasembled the shifter fork and cut about 2cm (almost an inch) off and now it sits nice - just above the height of the original shifter (whih I found a tad low).....easy peasy no downsides to this....

Cheers

I cut 3/4 inch off the top. Worked fine. The shifter did not fall off, or my car crashed & burned, or anything.

This will shorten the ratio further, which increases the effort required to shift. Probably a non-issue but that is how the kinematics work on levers.

I cut a full inch off.
Shift **** still fit snugly. Look's much better too.
Also shortened the throws a bit.

OP, Based on the spelling used in the title of your thread, I'd say you've got a real mess on your hands!
