Default Help me solve this problem

I had to jack the 4s up this weekend to check on a tire that had a slow leak. I jacked it up from the rear under the engine. While inspecting the tire - I didnt want my 8 year old to trip over the jack handle - so I removed it. When I did - the jack handle insert point - went straight up. Now the jack is under the car - and I cant get the jack handle back in. I tried a short pry bar to get the insert point back down again to no avail. I could try to manually release pressure from the jack - but i dont want the car coming down on the raised insert point (my car sits low).

Thoughts?

I did the same thing once. A second jack comes in real handy.

Put some boards under the back tires...say 2 or 3 2x8's stacked and then release by hand or with a smaller handle...pull jack out...fix handle...jack back up...remove boards...let down and you are good?

Or you can use jack stands in place of the boards and place them under the rear jack points.

Oh sure. But then you lose the excuse to have a second jack!

Steve, you are totally right. In fact, I think this calls for the purchase of a Bend Pak mid-rise lift after you get the car down...this will avoid this ever happening again. I mean for safety reasons this is clearly necessary...you did say you didn't want your child to trip over the jack handle so just avoid this ever happening again

Lord, I hope you don't take this advice. Certainly one way to get yourself killed. Remember that springs compress.

^^^ Do this. Even then, make sure your vitals are well clear of the car when you release the jack.

Thanks all. Ive been thinking about one of those aluminum racing jacks. This may be all the push I need. Otherwise the factory jack is coming out.
