I checked your RL link and didn't find any info there either.

I actually spoke to these guys and they would be willing to do some group buy type stuff for us.

So... if enough people are interested, we might get something going.

Two concerns I have are finding a loaner wheel with a bag for two month and the fact that my 3-spoke with leather bag seems to be dark gray instead of black. If I send them another 3-spoke wheel to recover it might not match the airbag. Any thoughts on that? Or is it just my imagination and all "black" 3-spoke wheels are actually the same color?

They are all the same Mike. The dye isn't any different, the lighting is.

Yeah, the loaner wheel was the problem for me, that's why I did it over the winter.

I'm thinking of buying a 3-spoker in bad condition in some obscure color and sending it in for recover-padding job.

Concern with color comes from my hazy memory that 4-spokers were "blacker" than the current 3-spoke in my car. Might be my imagination, might be the fact that leather quality and feel is completely different.

As far as group deal, it would make sense from shipping standpoint, I think. I've shipped 6-7 Momo wheels at a time from Europe before, boxes up to 20 kg make economic sense ($100 or so for 20 kg box shipped from Poland to US, that would easily be 7+ wheels). Also, the company itself is willing to give us a little discount, 10% if we get 3-5 wheels together. I can negotiate a bit more if we have more people interested.

I'd probably be willing to do the logistics. once the options are figured out payments would be sent directly to vendor for the work and I'll divide and collect the shipping.

I am not sure that would work. The back hub part of the wheel would remain the obscure color.

The circumference of my stock 3-spoke Boxster’s steering wheel is 3.75 inches. The circumference of the reworked 4-spoke 993 wheel in 4.5 inches. Both were measured at the 12 o’clock position. The quality of the leather of the Cars Dream is far superior of the OEM wheel’s leather. There is no comparison in the feel.

Wrote a long message regarding a US-based alternative, Dallas Custom... that got swallowed by crashed connecti0n. Arrgh.

To summarize: Dallas will recover the wheel for $350 in smooth leather with 1/8" padding. Shipping is $18. They will charge $250 core and will credit it back after you send them a black 3-spoke wheel in good shape. So, figure another $15 in return shipping. $30 to $60 for assorted options like perforated leather, color stripe, etc.

This is a good alternative for those who can't be without a steering wheel or don't want to wait. Of course you'll pay a bit more for convenience. i believe that quality would be comparable to the Polish vendor, although this is conjecture on my part based on hearsay (no, I'm not a lawyer).

I'm also sure we can talk to Dallas and see if a group price can be agreed on.

I had to chuckle when I came across this on their web site. I mean how many outfits that cover steering wheels has anyone come across that has "standards" that they meet, listed...

Leathers that we offer meet all the highest requirements acknowledged by following certificates:

* colour fastness to to-and-fro rubbing, UNI EN ISO 11640

* adhesion of finish, UNI EN ISO 11644

* tear load UNI ISO 3377

* flexion fatigue UNI 8433

* light resistance ISO 105B02

* fire resistance 70 C-4h

I'd be in for a group buy. As a comparison I just got a quote from Dallas Steering Wheel. They want $449 to replicate Chuck W's wheel (plus shipping). They do have a quick turn-around though.

You could surflex the color of your choice on the hub pretty easily.
