Question How to remove driver's side dash vent?

Anyone know how to remove driver's side air vent on 1997 model. Search fuction show a couple of people have asked over the years but no real responses.

The reference to the DIY for Radar Detector on Robin's site was not helpful to me.

My vent has access holes on top only. I have removed from MB before and they were a pain to get out without breaking something.

If you look from the side there is 1 trim screw that will interfere. Remove that and then just pull the vent straight out. It's just a couple of spring clips holding it in.

Great photos and instructions. That's what I needed to know to remove vent without damaging anything. I use those plastic upholesty tools to prevent damage to plastic and leather. The blue one on top is the only one I needed.

I needed to remove the vent to replace the light switch. Removal of switch can be done without removal of vent but I could not get it back in and had to remove the vent.

There doesn't seem to be a good pictorial on how to do this still (in 2024), at least on the 993 section of this site, and the link provided above hosts photobucket pictures which no longer exist in anything resembling a viewable resolution. I submit to this thread my latest technique for removing the driver's / passenger's side air vents --- use nylon zip ties to compress the bent-metal-springs at the top, and then use a Mercedes-Benz instrument-cluster-hook tool to pull out the vent (as you still have to overcome the force of the bottom bent-metal-spring-tabs.

Note that this air vent is used on some MB Gelandewagens of a certain vintage as well.
