I just sold my old one last year and replaced it with an E46 M3. In many ways I liked the e30 better

As the owner of a 2002 now -- and 7 before it -- I think I speak with some knowledge. That car looks good, but the devil is in the details. Rust would be the main concern at that price-point (which is high for a carburated 2002).

As said above, 72 is the "best" year, but they all are pretty good. Many take the big bumpers off the 74 and up cars when they are repainted. I personally would only buy a tii, but that is me. I actually will be selling my touring in a month or two, but it is going to cost more than twice the asking price for that car (and it a very different animal -- and at 180bhp, it is an animal).

But, you're in L.A., right? There are plenty of really good 02s down there and many folks to help. I would talk to Jack Fahuna or Carl Nelson in San Deigo and see what they have and what advice they can give you about local cars for sale. No need to buy long distance from where you are....

I've owned 7 2002's over the years. To me, the 72-73 series cars are the best. Non-impact, chrome bumpers, round taillights, etc. Much more desirable to me.
This car has the 320i 5 speed which is a common and nice addition. They did like to rust behind the front wheel.
Great little cars. I'd like to own one again....

I am the second owner of my 2002tii. Love the car. A well sorted 2002tii is a joy to drive.

I don't know anything about these guys. I like to check their inventory occasionally.

I've owned 2. The first one was in 1975- a '70. It was a real revelation driving that car down the street the first time when I took it for a test drive. They were so far ahead of the junk Detroit was putting out at that time it was stunning. Great balance and handling. 2002s were the cars that made the inroads to America back then that BMW enjoys now.

Thanks all for talking me out of an 02. This one did catch my eye. Saving for a 993 continues.

They should be able to help you with a PPI. They support a lot of local BMW events. I use Strictly BMW in Bellevue, which is about 25 miles north of Auburn.

Thanks! - High demand for the car, a local may end up with it. the hunt continues (for this + others )

Ah, this thread brings back memories. I still dream of my '73 tii. My Dad was hooked on '02s back in the late 70's and had a number of them. He would fix them up and sell them for a few $$.

We happened on the tii while it was at a wrecking yard. My Dad had always wanted a tii and so why not a project car we could both work on. Trouble was, I was only 10. Well, I guess he figured I could wait til I was 16 to drive it and he would have all the fun.

Once I had the keys, it was truly a treat. Ever since I had my license, that was the car. Sold it a number of years ago to make room for the 993, but even to this day, it's in my memories and dreams more than any other car... Weird. Sure, it was noisy, hot, but it sure could motor and surprise a bunch of folks who didn't think a box could go that fast!
