thanks...I think?
Oh well, I guess the good news is that I don't have to get my plates renewed for a year and a half. I guess I need to find a place that cleans out the ports. I'll do a search but is that the common consensus now...to get the ports cleaned?
thanks

I wouldn't freak out or jump into cleaning the ports yet. Clear the CEL. Use some Techron or any strong Fuel Injector cleaner for the next 3 or so fuel ups, and drive the car like you stole it. Rev it high and hard to get some of the carbon deposits off. See if the CEL comes back, or not. Sometimes, it is just the SAI valve that may need replacing. GL.

general consensus is probably to
1. clean check valve
2. check 02 sensors
3. use bass guitar strings if ports are clogged.
last resort is top end valve job.

Wouldn't bother trying to clean the check valve, just replace it. If you don't crunch it up getting it out there isn't much you can do to clean it.
I would do the roto-router job on it anyway instead of waiting for the ports to get clogged up and hardened further. I did mine in Dec. after I put the engine back in from the DMF/clutch replacement.

Does MO require emissions testing? if no, disregard following steps and just get a cheap code reader that will let you clear the code yourself. As stated above and in this order, 1. clear code and see if it comes back. 2. find out if the check valve has been replaced. If not (or if you can't verify) change it asap. If the light comes back after doing 1 & 2 get the ports roto rootered out before they become blocked beyond clearing short of removing the heads.
