RS brakes

The boost system is the electro-hydraulic setup as used in C4s but w/ a 25.4mm m/c, 4 channel abs/abd and a sport ABS brain

Changing the brake fluid and not getting 100% of the old fluid out is a lot like changing the oil, you don't get 100% out then either and there is no real harm done. Unless the old brake fluid is really bad don't worry about what's left in the ABS pump. Worst case just reflush/bleed the system again after a few months and you'll have 99.9% clean fluid.

That's not at all true. The fluid left in the pump can ruin it. And most street driven cars never get into the ABS to cycle it. The old fluid sits there and turns to wax. A very expensive proposition. There are innumerable reported instanced of this.

lacking a "Hammer" the next best thing is to try to lock up the brakes and get the abs pump to cycle that way, then rebleed.

Good point about the ABS not cycling. Cycling the ABS (not hard to do if you live near snow) should help push along the old fluid. Also, unless his car was very poorly maintained (unlikely for someone on this board as even for new owners a PPI is likely to spot a poorly maintained car) the fluid is probably not that old. Obviously a proper flush with a Hammer is ideal but absent that I think he'll still be OK.

The 993 sure has systems that call for a steep learning curve.

Thinking about it some more, it seems to me that, with the option 220 ABS/ABD, one has to have LSD or else, with just a standard differential, the computer would get constant confusing signals.

Yes ??

As stated back in post#5 lsd is part of the M220 package. The lsd is quickly worn out and surely needs to be rebuilt at this point, contact Matt Monson at GT gears for a quality rebuild

Thanks, Bill, had to think about the "why" a bit.

It all makes more sense now.
Mileage is 100k Km (About 63k Miles) with good history.

I do believe in more than called-for maintenance.
Looking at the Dealer stamps in the book, Porsche wants to see brake fluid renewal every 3 years.
Last fluid change was done Oct. 09 giving me at least another year or so anyway.

Guys, i got a question concerning maybe this topic.
I got no ABS system working. Othewise my C4S brakes ok.
I'm not pretty sure if this happend since my mechanic installed the new sport suspension on my C4S. For this he disconnect the hoses with the fluid brake.
Or if this happens a while ago.
I never tried the ABS system. So i wonder to my self if this ABS system works once before!.
Thanks for your answers.

Which is why the last two BMW motorcycles I bought, I made sure they didn't come with ABS. I wouldn't have had bought them even if they threw that option in for free.

On my 993...unfortunately no choice in the matter.

REVIVING AN OLD THREAD

Question is: Does this approach work on a 97 Carrera C2 with 220 / 224 LSD / ABD ?

I am trying to finally, after 2 years of ownership and Countless Service Upgrades, refresh etc - One heck of a Maintenance List - I am hopeful to finish car prepping, refreshing for DE Events this year.

After Suspension Bushing checks, Strut "Mount" Click Issue then Re-Allignment Next is New Pads with New Brake Lines and Flush. Hoping DIY ?

Car was lightly driven 7,000 miles by PO - last 3 years. My ownership - 31,000 miles added.
Thanks in advance for your response
Regards;
Tom
