Default OT: 2011 Barrett Jackson Scottsdale Auction

After watching the BJ Scottsdale auction it appears prices are strengthening considerably, at least for some cars...at least for this auction. To hear Craig Jackson and the Speed TV crew breathlessly proclaim the market "cloud" has lifted, you'd think it was 2007 all over again.

IMO, the "real" collector market ain't BJ and all its hype and glitzy over-produced, high roller atmosphere. The real collector car market, away from the hype and the TV cameras, is still way down from its over inflated bubble highs of 2007. And for the average car enthusiast and collector of modest means, that's a good thing.

Who else watched the BJ Scottsdale auction? What do you think?

I havent watched closely the last few years, but wow have prices dropped off a cliff from 07 and before. Saturday used to be all $300-500,000 cars with a couple $1 Million+ thrown in...now most cars on Saturday are 1-200,000 with a very few over $300,000.
I agree that the alcohol induced ego-fest it used to be has been toned way down.

I watched quite a bit mainly because I'm desperate for the first car event of the new year but I agree about it being not representative of the real market for an average collector. On Saturday when cars were being sold for outrageous prices it looked like big money was being spent on average cars with over the top restorations.....$335k for a '56 De Soto being a prime example. Sometimes it was painful to watch. I watched a bit today and it looked like reasonable prices were being paid for reasonable cars.

I enjoy seeing the cars, and hearing all the facts & knowledge from Steve Magnante. Most prices were within reason, and if anything, restorers can make their money back & the customs sold well.

You could see the alcohol flowing, but it was toned down from the craziness of 2006-2007.

still worth watching
