Default Igntion switch

I am faced with the prospect of replacing a dodgy igntion switch - not the lock part itself but the switch unit at the back. I did a quick search and one post said it was a moderately difficult DIY job. Has anyone replaced this and can give some clues as to the best way to go about it?
Thanks!

I had problems with the lock cylinder and was able to fix it with a good cleaning while it was still installed in the car. Sounds like you have already isolated it to the electrical portion.
