Aren't the GT2 and RS outer tie rods identical?

Anyone have road-car impressions of the solid sides?

They are not identical. The RS tie rods are similar to the stock ones in general construction but have different geometry to accommodate the lowered ride height. The GT2/Evo tie rods are monoball type and are pictured in this thread which also details my impressions of this as well as the solid side mods.

the GT2 and RS outers are identical, the RS inners still have the rubber coupler the GT2 has a solid joint.

Solid sides will be fine for a performance oriented street car.

I just confirmed this to be true although the price is now $370.59.

Looks like I over paid but not by much. When taking the tie-rods into consideration (better than sunset) I am about even with them.

Thanks for the heads up. Ordering wheel bearings now. This parts source gives me a lot more hope now for a reasonable budget on maintenance.

Alltogether this should cost you $1200 for everything purchased new from a Porsche dealer. (except speed sensors...if you need them ($30?)
i agree, when i was researching these last summer, these are the prices i was quoted from 2 dealers.

IMO people should do a bit of research and not just believe conventional net wisdom

Same deal with Audi parts. I haven't bought any "dealer only" parts from anyone else for years now. Even if their prices weren't the best, their service and knowledge is worth it....but their prices ARE the best.

Do you HAVE to use the GT2 tie rods if you install the GT2 uprights? I'd rather not spend the $400.

Yes at least the outer half. They have different angles at the end where they bolt into the wheel upright. The inner half can be pinned to make it solid.

Craig, and P1CR, are your prices with GT2 tie rods or RS?

FWIW
Sunset is currently advertising these uprights and tie rods in the recent EXCELLENCE mag for a bit more $$ than i listed in my post from Jan 2011.

Looks like they cast another run of parts.
