when I sold my SC, the buyer was going to drive back to Oklahoma, the tires were fairly old and pretty awful (Sumi HTRIIs) not IIIs. I couldn't see letting him drive on them, particularly if he encountered any rain. I told him I would cover the first $250 and put whatever he wanted, and have them mounted etc... before he came to pick up the car.
I think we wound up with putting some Kumhos on, don't really remember.

That reminds me... i got my fist 993 in San Francisco and drove it to Boston via New Orleans and a few other neat places (4,600 miles or so). It was January, i had no idea about 993 and it was my first P-car. I was mightily surprised when I got stick in snow in Virginia with absolutely no traction.

OK, Kumho 711 is not a great snow tire, so next day I got out of the snow and drove to DC. All the way there the car felt squirrelly. When I finally got to a friend's house in DC and looked at the rear tires, i could nto believe it. They were pretty much bold. But wait, wait, they had good thread when I left California. Learned right there and then that a 993 will at rear tires in about 6K miles of docile highway driving.

Let this be a fair warning to those who fly, buy and drive across the country.
