Default (Update: Sold) Potentially a good deal on a '97 C2S in Wappingers Falls, NY

Update: apparently sold; link isn't good and the car's not on there site.

No affiliation w/the seller, etc.

Another Rennlister drove it yeseterday and shared his comments on it with me. We both decided it wasn't for us, but it could be a great deal for someone here.

Note the car is a C2S, but the seller seems to think it's a C4S (edit: they fixed it; now says C2S).

That price and mileage seems strange. May I ask why the car wasn't for you?

At that price, with that many miles and those options eg RUF rims... there has to be a story. Carfax is clean. So why wasn't it right for you?

Default yikes!

looks beautiful, love the wheels, big ovals,...been lowered too.

What's the skinny?

The mileage CAN'T be right, or the price...Something has to be wrong. Would love to know the option codes too.

Enquiring minds want to know?

I don't see anything wrong with the mileage. The Carfax is consistent throughout its life. No strange gaps or mileage not increasing incrementally over the years. Seems to have been driven as if it were a typical garage queen.
Some unrecorded accident damage or paintwork? Whenever a non specialist dealer advertises something like this, red flags start waving.

A few reasons. The big one is that it's too far from me and I'm sure it will be gone by the time I can get there. And it may need $5K-7K of work to make it right. Needs brakes, 30K service, and some interior bits. Plus I'm not a Guards Red guy. And it's weird that a car with that mileage is offered at that price, and that it has what appears to be significant wear in the driver's interior area when according to the sales guy, the owner was an average sized dude (see the caved-in arm rest, bolster wear). But take all that with a grain of salt--I've only seen pictures and spoken with a fellow Rennlister who test drove it yesterday. Honestly, if I liked Guards Red, I'd be on a plane right now.

I was the other Rennlister .

It has option 220 locking diff, no other significant options. Feel free to PM me and I will be happy to provide my take on the car.

Hard to tell but from what I can see the condition of those seats look consistent with mileage. But if you don't like the color its a non-starter no matter what the options, price or mileage. I'm not a fan of Guards Red either.

Things you say need doing should come in considerably less than $5K.

Seats are not always accurate indicators of mileage. My 2002 Miata only had 24,000 miles on it when I bought it, but the driver's side bolster was worn far more than I would have expected. The previous owner was of average build, meaning he would have benefited from losing 15-20lbs.

And, of course, beware the SAI and check engine light ... but looks like a very nice buy.

Those black leather seats don't hold up very well even in low mileage cars, in my experience. Nothing a $300 dye job by a pro wouldn't put right.

This car is considerably below market value for the mileage. If there is no hidden accident or other bigger problem (CEL / SAI), who worries about new brakes (~ 1000 USD OEM parts plus a day in the garage to get it installed) and a 30k service? I hope a rennlister is lucky and makes a good deal on a hopefully good car. I would be have been all over it when I was in the market.
