Default Fiend says avoid '95 at all costs

Hi,

I sold my '88 and I am searching for a 993. My friend has owned his '96 for six years.

He has told me to to avoid the '95 cars for the following reasons:

1. The 1995 suspension is inferior and was fixed in 1996.
2. The gear ratios are better on the 1996 as they better utilize the powerband.
3. More torque on 96+

I think the torque is a non-issue for me. What I am concerned about is the rear suspension. How much would I need to spend to upgrade this, or would most owners already have performed the fix?

I did a search and the threads always turned into arguments about VR & ODBII. I couldn't get any info on the rear suspension.

My searches on Autotrader do show a surprising price difference between the 95 vs 96.

Your "fiend", or friend, is not that well informed. Rear suspension on the 993 is the same on the '95 as the '96. Listen less to your friend, and search more on Rennlist. You'll be better served.

Your fiend is certainly incorrect ... Search is your friend

fiend ... man who craves a certain substance, usually a drug.
Various types of fiends exist, such as the tweaker, the crackfiend, the pothead, the cokehead, etc.

95 has the advantage of not having OBD 2 and the check engine light for SAI. 96 got vario ram for a few moe horsepower not enough th be noticed even on a race track. I think it was a bump of 12.

I would suggest getting a new friend to go withnyour new car.

95's did have the wiring harness issue, but that can be sorted out.

This forum is an amazing collection of talent and experience...use it wisely.

ditto on my choice of a '95.

I'm rare in that I like the basket handle although there may be RS splitters and wing in my not-too-distant future.

I ditched the cat for DACH X pipes and DACH-R mufflers, GLORIOUS sound and engine is JUST fine for me without varioram and SAI issues.

Suspension ? PSS10 augments the OEM pieces quite nicely.

I like the handle too.

DB, love the wheels, a splitter and wing will work nicely on that!

Your friend is obviously not a Rennlister. Tell him to get on here and get educated!

.
1. Incorrect.
2. Incorrect. Search for G50/20 and G50/21 for the full story. Quick version: ALL non-turbo 993s sold in North America had the same gearing.
3. Correct.

Also search for OBDI, OBDII, Varioram, and Immobilizer. LOTS of info on this.

Varying opinions on the whole 95-98 debate. I own a late 95 and a 97. Each has pros and cons. IMHO one is no better than the other.

I love my "inferior" '95! You'll have to pry the keys from my cold, dead, clenched fist!
