Considering dropping turbo motor in my 993 cab
I know im crazy, but I love the cab to much to give it up. It just needs more power. My shop in Los Angeles has done several of these and says they come out great. Includes engine, fuel pump & lines, cpu, clutch, turbo tail, misc. All running to the rears. Should run me $20K with the engine tradein. Thats not to bad. Am I nuts?

Keep in mind that with the beefy turbo clutch and your lack of any power assist, that will be one mean sucker to depress. How is your left hip and knee?

If you want the Turbo power, sell your cab, and buy a 993 Turbo. As you know, the inside of the 993 is pretty small and very funtional & purposeful; with the windows down and the suroof open, it "feels" a lot like a cab (and I say this as a Turbo and Boxster owner).

Really want to keep the cab. Other choice is to get a 997 turbo cab. Just not sure if I want to go back to the 997 style again.

I agree with this statement. I've owned Porsche convertibles for 10 years and sold mine a year ago to buy a 993 Turbo Coupe. I just open the sunroof and windows and the small size of the cabin makes it feel very open

i agree with the above sentiments. don't do it. the 993tt have come down in prices and you could easily sell your car and add an extra 20 k and get a turbo. if you dropped a turbo engine in your car the resale value will be cut in half. i used to have a 993 cab and now have a 993tt and quite frankly the power band on the NA car was perfect i thought. the car was sublime in 3rd gear at 4k rpms. if i were you, put some coilovers (if you haven't already) on your car and change out the seats to the cut the weight down and then drive the crap out of it.

My advice:
Spend half that $20K you wanna spend on your engine swap on a re-geared transmission instead. That'll make the car feel much more lively and fun to drive and feel like you just gained 75hp.
Then, spend a little more money to lose some 100-150 pounds of extra weight you don't need.
The car will feel much faster, and not lose resale value or that nice linear pull of a N/A engine.

The TT conversion is quite simple and straightforward. If you really like your cab, go for it! Just be sure the donor engine you are getting is healthy.

I don't think the Turbo engine is a simple plug and play as stated. The engine might not have the same measurements so that mod to the body would be required?
Call Rick at Deman Motorsports. He is very knowledgeable and can guide you the right way.
If power (or just a feeling of more power) is what your after, Protomotive TT bolt on, SC, gearing, weight loss, are all less intrusive/money than the engine swap IMHO
Keeping in mind the minute you do any of the above, it is is far from being a purist 993 Car.
Also, make sure you like the look of the OEM turbo wing on a NB Cab.
Other than that.. Keep us posted and happy sliding
