I haven't ever seen that done to a 993 but it usually blows up the ABS and Airbag computers so I would check those first, if it starts and runs then its safe to say your Engine computer is okay.

Not sure about what usually happens to 993's specifically but I think what happens sometimes when you jump a car backwards the diode bridge in the alternator does the opposite of what it is intended to do and allows the ac voltage coming out of alternator to enter your computer and basically ruin it. So be careful I would not start your car at all and take it strait to a shop.

Have checked the fuses - seems most relate to lights etc, with one relay that appears to relate to starting. Will have another look for the main.
thanks for the replies

Alan - dude !!! what were you smoking when you did that !!!
Get the garage to check the car for you - you may find that the electric cables could be a damaged through the car. It wasn't till I had my alternator changed (due to bearing) that the garage noticed that the cable was fried. Hope the car starts and runs - but I have also heard that abs and abd could have problems.
Let me know if you need a hand mate.
Regards
Ken

Only way to tell is start the thing up and go for a spin Alan. Bouzoukikid is probably right - probably just a few sparks and that was it.

Buddy of mine did the same thing. Killed the battery. That's all. I am guessing it is the same thing in your case. If this is the worst thing that happens this weekend in the Rennlist community, it'll be a good weekend.

The lights come on but its totally dead? So it does not crank? does it make any sounds when you try to turn it over? Check the battery with a multimeter then check it while trying to crank and report back. I understand you just touched the terminals you did not actually connect and start the car? If that is true then you probably did not damage the computer but I would be very careful just assuming that its ok and driving away in the thing without having it properly checked

Well after a few days and nights stewing over varying opinions from various shops, from "it should be ok" to "99% sure it is fried and it could cost $10-$15 big ones to fix", i am stoked to report back that i swapped out the battery from my wife's car connected it up (the right way
this time) turned the ignition and the baby fired up without a hesitation. Whoooooooohooooo![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)
wont do that again![nono](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/nono.gif)
thanks all for the support. Not sure why its all ok, perhaps my battery was so dead to start off with??? i am drinking a cold one right now wiping the sweat off my brow thanking the p-gods

Hurray!!!!!!!
That's what I like to here.
My theory is that there was some charge in your battery hence it cancelled out the reversing of the jump leads hence causing no damage to the car (if it was too dead you would not have ignition lights).
Good result.
