Default Someone regeared my car and didn,t tell me.

I bought a 1995 993 C2 in Brooklyn NY. It is a basic Polar Silver car with only a few options . It has LSD and the seller was the 3rd owner and had no records. Since buying it I have discovered PSS9s,and FVD mufflers and a GIAC chip.It is also equipped with 17" Bridgestone S050s. After reading about regearing to the Euro G50/21 box I was unable to understand why as I felt mine was geared fairly well.Today I started comparing speed in gears to a chart I found and I am convinced it has Euro 3,4,5,6. It might also have had a top end as it uses no oil at all and now has 110000 mi. The car was serviced at Manhatten Porsche and has a PCA sticker on the side window. They told me the car had a new rack and appeared to be well loved but couldn,t tell me any info about the PO .Anyone recognize the car????? vin# wpoaa2996ss322793

Interesting. That is an expensive undertaking. Take a look at the "Post Your Vin" thread and see if it is listed there. Also, post some photos of it; interior and exterior. Good luck.

No kidding!

Where are the part #s stamped on the transmissions? Maybe one of the previous owners actually swapped to a Euro box.

Your local Porsche dealer has the capability to look up your VIN and tell you how it was configured when sold new AND, can usually tell you how many owners it has had and their names

Yes its stamped with the G20 number. I have matched the speed in gears to a chart I found . If the tach and speedo are at all accurate I have a g21 set in 3,4,5,6. At 3000 I am seeing about 42 in 3rd,53 in 4th and 64 in 5th.and just under 80 in 6th.

I think that since your car was 'misrepresented' as sold, you should sell it. To me.

that does look about right for a /21, tire size and speedo errors will account for the differences from theoretical
/20 @3k w/ 265/35x18 will be ~17, 31, 45, 57, 69, 82
/21 @3k w/ 265/35x18 will be ~17, 30, 41, 51, 62, 78

255/40x17 http://members.rennlist.com/david_t/gears.htm I am dropping th engine this winter to do a clutch and first gear syncro is tired . I know a tooth count is the only sure way to tell. I have a new LWF maybe I,ll find another as it grabs revs fairly fast but there is no telltale rattle

Call/Visit Manhattan Porsche and ask for Service. Give them the VIN and ask what was done on the car. I did this BEFORE I even bought my car and discovered a top-end job had been done, clutch and several other good things (a page full of notes with dates and mileage)! I was honest with them and asked as nice as I could and it worked! They couldn't/wouldn't make copies for me, since that could have other's personal information on it, so I had to make due with word of mouth and my written record, but good enough for me.

I have spoken to service already and they disclosed the rack had been replaced along with frequent detailing oil changes and a brake job. They made the general observation that they" knew the car was much loved" but cite privacy issues and will not identify previous owners. They had no record of the PSS9 installation or the muffler or chip change. I suspect an Indy has looked after it since. There are a few things I don,t think a dealer tech would do. The brake pad wear sensors have been neatly zip tied out of the calipers and the car is set up with about 2deg neg camber all round. What I would do if "DE"ing alot.

And what did the Pre Purchase Inspection reveal? Not much I suppose... Sounds like a fun car regardless. Enjoy it...

I,m a retired licensed class A mechanic in Ontario. I have had and been working on 911s since 1972 .I did my own inspection and found a few things like worn A arm bushings and a power window switch needing replacement.Brakes about 50% .Tires about 70% fr and 40% rear.No oil smoke on start up ,few small leaks and ran very well.AC works .Clean black interior and straight body with a couple door chips and some minor repainting on one corner. Weak syncro on first was the biggest defect. I bought it more based on price (under 20K) than anything else.. I haven,t found any defects since that I missed, only good surprizes .

I am not familiar with the GIAC chip. If you install the RS Clutch/LWF you might want to research stalling issues on '95s. The 911 Chips from Steve Wong will resolve any issue you may have with that.
