1997 c4s option
Hello, I'm looking at this 1997 993 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123
I have several questions:
- it looks like a c4s to me. But the rear badge is missing the "S". Is it expected?
- seller told me the rear wing is a factory option. Is that true?
- seller also told me the carbon fiber dash panel is oem as well. Does it looks like it?
- does 1997 has the wiring harness recall and the SAI issue?
Thanks.

- It appears to be a C4S - wide body, turbo brakes, etc.
- The rear wing may have been added later, which might explain why the S didn't make it. No biggie, it's a $25 piece of plastic you can get on Pelican. It looks like the wing is part of the Aerokit package, but that usually comes with a front lip and I don't see one.
- From the fuzzy pictures I can't tell.
- IIRC the recall only affects 95 and 96 cars. SAI is present on all 96-98 cars so it could be a problem later on, however there are easy workarounds these days that don't involve an engine rebuild.
Other than that, it looks like a well optioned car.

Actually, regarding the CF parts - they look OEM. Ask for the option codes on the car and you'll be able to tell right away whether the wing and CF bits are factory or added later.

FWIW....I came across a red 1998 C2S on craigslist the other day in Arizona. Mileage was high (90,000+) but the price seemed good...somewhere around $30K. If I find it again I'll post it. Thought I'd mention it since you seem be to interested in a red 993 WB.

Trinitony,
I noticed from your avatar your c2s has the turbo tail but no turbo chin spoiler as well. Are those 2 separate options in 97?
Btw, I just noticed the red car rev gauge is missing the carrera S logo as well. Maybe it just aftermarket...the car smell more fishy now...we'll see

Also the Ebay ad lists the car as a Carrera 4. I didn't notice where it is referenced as a C4S.

Do you meant only c2s would have the carrera s logo on the tach? But still where are the holes for the warning lights etc..? Thanks, learning something new everyday.

Yes only C2S. A few cars had factory white face gauges and they left the indicator lamps open. They look dark when they are not lit up. On a black face gauge you can't tell the indicator lamps unless you're up close or take a picture with a flash.
The PO of my car had North Hollywood Speedo redo the gauge faces in silver and covered the holes. Spectacular job. You can't tell they are there and yet they light up fine. Wish the factory did that too.

I'm still not sure whether the ebay car is a real c4s or a conversion thou. The seller told me its a c4/c4s However I read somewhere before that Porsche produced S car exclusively starting in 1997?

That rear spoiler came from Porsche on the 4S long before the Turbo S came along.
A lot of 4S/S/ cars with that spoiler from the factory.
There is no "S" logo on the 4S tach from Porsche.
That looks like a smoken good deal on an Aero kit 4S if it is factory.
