Default Clutch Question - Reality Check

95 C2 club sport with clutch starting to slip at 95K (1st & 2nd gear). Clutch replaced at 60K. Original slave/master cylinders, flywheel.

I am thinking I need new clutch but wanted to check with the group b4 proceeding. Could this be anything else (wishful thinking) like slave/master cylinder?

Seems early to fail again in just 35k miles, but not out of the question if used aggressively. Not likely slave/master unless one of them is sticking and preventing full engagement. You could always try bleeding the system and see what happens.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I had the brake flush on my list. Now it's number one.

That is a beautiful blue color on your car! What is it?

The slave cylinder is not known as a long lasting item. Its a $100 and can be a DIY item. It should be changed when you get a clutch anyway. Its worth a shot.

You're smelling clutch on hard 1st and 2nd gear acceleration? Or just slippage without the smell? If there's no clutch disc smell, then the disc might be oiled down.

There is no smell at all, just slippage. If oiled down, what is remedy? Thanks, Peter

Replacement of the disc. And the transmission and/or engine main seal(s).

Your transmission may be leaking fluid onto the disc. Don't ask how I know that.

Hmm. Very interesting. Leaking transmission fluid on to disk - how to confirm? Would this leak show up on the garage floor?

Might not, but should probably be evidient by moisture at the trans/motor junction.

I took a couple of pix. Not too good as the car is not on stands and it's hard to get my bearings (also, cover still on). I will take some better pix on saturday when I have more time but here are a couple..

Neither of those pics are where the wet spot would be. (Yeah, axle flange seals can leak, but that's got nothing to do with the clutch.) And with many of the 901/915 cars I made my money on through the 80s and 90s, a lot of them with trans main seal leaks didn't really have much evidence outside the bellhousing. (I'll admit to zero experience on G50 cars as they were hardly born when I was out of the business.)

Bottom line is that if you have a slipping clutch, you have a slipping clutch. We can talk all we want about oil getting on it; it could just flat-out be toasted. Unusual, but you wouldn't be the first guy in the known universe to have one go relatively prematurely.

Clutch slippage has nothing to do with the slave or master, even if yours are leaking. I haven't had an oiled clutch disk in a Porsche but did on a Honda long ago and the symptom I recall was judder, not slip.
