Default acetone

we have heard this before, but i want to say a few more words.
97 C2 146k
couldnt find premium, added 6 oz acetone to midgrade fillup.
i have to tell you its truly amazing what it does, ive been doing this for 80k or so miles but always to premium. gonna start using midgrade.
I know its got a knock sensor and all but the ease of revs, the more rapid throttle response and what feels like a real increase in power and smoothness is to be experienced .. if you wish

Have you noticed your piston material exiting the exhaust pipe yet?

David,

While the octane-boosting properties of Acetone (as well as Toluene & Zylene) are well known, their side effects are something to be considered.

Gasoline fuel systems (non-flex fuel) are not made for higher percentages of these solvents and will attack the elastomers in the fuel system. Components made from rubber such as O-rings, seals and gaskets that are not Viton, degrade rather quickly with regular use of such aromatics. I'd be careful and keep a sharp watch for fuel leaks.

JMHO, but based on what I've seen, its cheaper to use unleaded race gas to achieve the effects you noted.

I've had similar success adding 12 ounces of sulfuric acid at each fill-up.

Here, I thought you were going to use that stuff to buff out your paint?

Having spent a lot of time in Ft Bragg, CA - I understand David having to burn whatever fuel he can find. that place is so remote I'm surprised he can buy gasoline at all. Beautiful country but not near anything!!! good beer though at North Coast brewing!!!!!

Surely this thread is a joke. I can't imagine anyone would actually do this.

I would think less damage would have been done to the engine on a single tank of midgrade until premium grade was found than to repeatedly add acetone to tanks of midgrade gas.

Wuss. Drinking just 4 Oz of C2H5OH would give you even better effects.
