This based on what I found in my Porsche Service Manuals and the 993 Essential Companion...

There are two wires coming off the oil pressure sender/switch:

Green/Red goes up to the oil pressure gauge in the instrument panel.

Green/White goes to the "central informer" box that is under the dash attached to the steering column. I believe it then turns the appropriate lights on in your instruments if you have a problem.

The following was included on the electrical schematic:
0 bar: 5 - 13 Ω
3 bar: 111 - 121 Ω

I wonder what happened to the 5 bar spec?

Hope this helps.

Alex, thanks!

If I understand the above, there are two separate wires. Since both the gauge is low and the light is on (and they behaved in a related manner before), I would discount my wiring theory. It does appear to be either a bad sensor or actual low pressure than?

Hopefully not the latter.

Check your email for a link to circuit diagrams.

What year is your 993?

Its very easy to get to it from what I remember, as I had the airbox cover and airbox out last winter to replace my upper valve cover seals and spark plugs. I have a pic, but the sensor is hidden behind some items.

Alex, got the email, thanks! I'll be looking at things over the next few days trying to figure it and my alternator noise out. If it only was not as cold here...

I did a bit more digging last night as I am putting together a cross reference list of Porsche-Manufacturer parts.

The Porsche part number for the sender is 928 606 203 01. I would have thought it was made by Bosch but a search had it pointing to a VDO part number which in the end makes sense.

VDO part number: 360 081 030 157C according to the VDO Sensors for Instrumentation catalog.

Resistance range of 10 to 184 Ω between 0 and 5 bar.

That makes sense when relating the resistance specs I listed in a post a few up. I plotted a graph in Excel and the 111 to 121 Ω (116 Ω) at 3 bar fell on the line.

Boston...cold? Wanna trade locations?
