Smile Want a suspension upgrade, PSS 10 for PSS 9

BUT, I really want are Moton Club Sports. They are the ultimate shock according to my research (read, talked to Steve Weiner and Jae Lee)...but curses, by the time I get the Motons and Springs, get a set of EVO uprights....I am $6,000 + in the hole.

I will probably have to settle for PSS 10s....I'll sell off the PSS9s, put them up on member to member next week. The Cross, the JIC...not that much better, if at all, than the PSS 10s, and with Bilstrein get a lifetime warranty should they spring a leak, or fail in any way.

For a street car PSS* are a fine choice for a track car not so much, you need to install much stiffer springs and monoball/camber plates that will add significantly to the cost

What is the difference between 9 and 10 other than easier adjust and one more setting? If those are the only two benefits I'd stick with the 9s.

Default 9's VS 10s

Here is what I have discovered...

PSS9/10....PSS9s, the clicks between 2 - 8 don't seem to do that much. In addition, the ***** can be a little difficult to adjust. But full soft (street) full stiff (track), the PSS9s have been great for me. I have the fronts mounted into ERP camber plates, the rears into ERP hats.

The PSS 10, with one additional adjustment (10), seem to be more responsive to a mid-range adjustments, or so I have been told. The adjustment ***** on the PSS 10s look to be a wee bit more ergonomic.

But as Bill V. says, PSS 9/10 are not a full tilt race suspension, springs are too soft. Sure you could re-valve the PSS9s and add stiffer springs...but in my Club, that puts me from Improved to Prepared. I can compete as an Improved car, but am toast as a Prepared car unless I go to the Motons and get the car weight below 2900 Lbs.

You can't get a 993 NB to this sort of weight without severely stripping it. I still drive my car on the street (Going to the gas station when at the track). It is a dual purpose car, not good for the street, not good enough for the track, but I can live with it as it lives with me.

The 10's ***** are definitely easier to use than the 9s.

What about KWs?

I have JIC monotube coilovers on my non-Porsche autocross car. They are, shall we say, very good for that application as they would be for the track, I believe. They've replaced Tein HAs and are so much better that it's not even funny. I have never been a fan of Bilsteins for dedicated track or autocross appliance. They are more of a street setup, both HDs and PSS coilovers. Just a data point.

Now, having said that, I'm looking for suspension for my 993 cab for the street and maybe very occasional autocross. So if you are selling the 9's, I'd be interested.

I'd just stick with the PSS9. I don't think you'll get your money's worth by switching to 10s since they are also a compromise and not that big of an upgrade over what you already have. JMO.

KW V3s are a a nice compromise between Bilstein PSSx and Motons w/accessories, IMO.
price is right at just a few hundred more than PSS10s

love my kw v3s!
why don't you just send your pss9s to the factory in SoCal and they can rebuild them to PSS 10s for you?

John Haas raced his 993 with JIC's for many years and did very well with them.

Martin, don't do this, it will be money not well spent IMO.
if you're going to make a noticeable improvement, buy the motons, RS uprights aren't that critical?????????? and you'll save $1500.

or do as Eric recommended and look into refurbishing your 9's at Bilstein.

I have JIC's and like them. The spring rates I have are too heavy, and I will be changing them eventually.

If you are looking at the PSS-x then think seriously about JIC's.

If you are looking at moton / jrz type shocks then take a look at KWv3.

I am probably going to skip the coil swap on my JIC's and go with KWv3's.
