Relay when running HID low/high?

It might work w/o the relay harness if you follow the rule, first start engine then switch on lights. If you stall the motor at night, turn off lights, refire and turn lights back on.
You won't know if both ballasts fired if you don't have the harness. I don't know why people are afraid of it. It's the extra insurance, cost's next to nothing and is easy to install since the battery is right there with the lights. How much easier can it get?
It also provides the ballast with battery power which is 1.xx volts higher then the control voltage over the light switch, fuse box etc.
To me, it's a non issue. I run 2 harnesses for 4x55w ballasts. It performs flawlessly.
