Default Oil Cooler bypass clarification please

Does the oil cooler bypass DIY here http://p-car.com/diy/fanswitch/, disable the automatic operation of the fan and make it strictly manual?
Or, does it simply add the ability to manually run the fan at high speed while maintaining the the automatic fan speed function?

Thanks!

hmm, mine is strictly manual but the low speed resistor thing fried itself (twice), so mine is gone and that's why I installed the switch. It may still come on automatically at the high speed setting, but I have never let it get hot enough to see.

It is a manual switch. Basically, you are tapping into the temperature sensor line of the oil cooler fan. The higher the oil temperature the higher the resistance. What you are doing with the switch is to open/disconnect the line which makes the ccu thinks the oil temp is sky high and turns on the fan. With the switch in the closed position, the ccu sensor and fan work as normal.

I thought CCU stands for Climate Control Unit; the heating/air conditioning control panel on your dash.

If so, what does that have to do with the oil cooler fan?

I'm totally now
