Default Can the airbag go off when not plugged in?

Ended up with a couple used steering wheels. Thinking of using one to mount somewhere for my kid to play with in his room...but is there any risk of the airbag somehow being able to go off? I know there is no current of any sort, but...hate to launch my kid into the next room...

There is a very, very slim chance of the airbag being detonated by an electrostatic discharge. Just don't take the risk. If you are confident , then dismantle the airbag module and remove the gas generator. This will make the airbag inert and your kid can play safely to his or her heart's content.

Why not take the airbag off, and put the cover back on? It will be lighter so it will be easier for your kid to play with it.
