steering wheel need not be removed to pull out instruments - just the plastic 2 piece hub shroud from which the various turn signal, wiper, etc. stalks spring from.

sorry - you may be right, i forgot i have a 996 3 spoke wheel and by turning it 90 degrees i can get at the shroud screws.

if you have the OE 4 spoke you may not be able to get at them.

apologies.

Hello guys out there, I did this mod and I wasn't satisfied with the light output towards the outside of the gauges. I pulled all led's and exchanged them for SMC led's. Those are a lot brighter and have a wider angle from the base.
Dimmer still works fine too.
The contact tabs on those bulbs had to be bent tighter for a good fit on the pcb. I had to redo all of them. None of them were plug and play. Some of the tabs were so flimsy that they broke off. I sent them back and I got better replacements for it. I'm happy with it now.

I thought plug and play was too good to be true - i had to modify all the led's so they would fit; agree, they are very flimsy.
Managed to get 2 out of >10 to fit - after hours of trial and error i gave up and thought, the OE ones are not so bad after all.

Brighter yes. What wouldn't be ....they are 14 years old. I did the orange which is more red. They aren't super bright, but I can't comment on the white or blue.

I hate to say it but mine was plug and play besides the polArity issue. No tab bending or mod required .

Did you get the ones for the 993?
