So from my earlier thread of what next mod to buy. I decided to go with a Short Shifter.
Now my question is what do I buy?
Here are the options.
1. SSK & Golden Rod (The golden rod is only sold sepratly correct?)from FD Motorsports
2. SSK Only from FD Motorsports
3. 993 RS Shift lever & Fork from Porsche. (I was told this is waht really makes the diffrence)
BTW, Does anyone have the factory part numbers for the RS Shift Lever and fork?
Thanks guys, I cant wait to get this purchase and installed.

Porsche shift lever (964-424-015-08) and fork (964-424-017-01) plus FDM Golden Rod is the shizzle. You should also replace the 4 plastic bushings (999-924-002-40) as well that go between the shifter and fork.
I wouldn't skip getting the Golden Rod. It makes a huge difference in the shifting feel, much more so than just the shifter and fork. It replaces your sloppy stock rubber donut with a precise universal joint. The shifting feel will be much more positive and mechanical.

+1. If I had to pick one or the either, it would be the Golden Rod without a doubt. The SSK doesn't shorten the throw much.

FYI: the FDM SSK uses the factory RS lever and fork. We modify it to work with our stainless rod ends, which eliminates any of the slop that can come from the factory ball and cup connections. It also replaces the front mount and front rod with stainless steel components. It raises the lever approx 1" and shortens the throw by about 20%.

The pivot point is in a different location IIRC. Mark had advised me that I can cut 3/4" off of the top of the lever if I want to get the shifter **** back to the stock height. It seems fine the way it is out of the box. I have both the Golden Rod and the SSK from FD. I installed the Golden Rod first and the SSK about 6 months later.

I installed the FD Golden Rod w/ the SSK this spring.
The added height is a welcome change - I always felt the original configuration was a bit of a reach, to 5th for example. This brings things slightly (and more readily) to hand.
As for the effect on shifting precision, which was what I was really after, I read dozens and dozons of glowing posts. Many spoke of night and day differences, rifle-bolt precise mechanical action, and other superlatives.
To be honest, if the sloppy stock shifter is a zero on a scale of 1-10, I'd say the GR gets you to about a 6. Don't expect a miracle - shifting a G50 is fine, but with nowhere near the precision you'd get from other modern transmission designs.
No knock on the product, nor Darin and Mark (they're a 10 out of 10!). Just the nature of the beast - if you go in with reasonable expectations, you'd be more than pleased in installing both the FD Golden Rod and SSK.
Best,
Matt
