Joe,

Love your E30. GLWS. If I win the lottery one day, I'd love an E30 M3 as a toy.

You might try posting on r3vlimited.com as well. Sold my 1990 325is a few months ago (when I picked up the 993) after two days from a link there. No auction though. GLWS!

That's one of the best written car ad's I've seen - really makes me wish I had purchased your gearbox when I had the chance... Ah well.

Anyway, surely the next owner will be lucky to have her, what a beauty!! Best of luck with the sale.

Thanks Pong. You know, I actually prefer this car to my old E30 M3 2.5. The S14 engine was a love/hate engine for sure.

Thanks Kurt. It's on there.

Its a matter of personal taste.
Agreed! It's a personal thing, to be sure. One person's "antiquated" is another man's "classic."

Add to this the fact the 911 dash and silhouette has changed precious little since mid 60s adds to the mystique and truly classic (overused word, to be sure ) nature of our cars. Can anyone dispute the sheer beauty of a "longhood" 911? Nor the direct lineage that leads up to the glorious 993?

BMW lost its way somewhere in there. Similar with MB ...just shame, IMHO. Sure they get "better" on the road. But "feel" and "personality" for most of the new variants has been, um, homologated, IMHO. And don't get me started with maintenance, especially with MBs (of whom a buddy has been a factory tech at a dealer for near 20 yrs ...oh, the stories on the current flavors!!).

Maintenance on my 220 series S500 makes working on the 993 seem like working on a spaceship.

The various model MBs that I have owned and serviced are some of the easiest cars I've ever seen to work on.

Now that maintenance, not repairs (especially electrical), but I have been very impressed with ease of work on MB.

The 993, not so much.

I was considering a BMW 840/850 as well as an Acura NSX prior to my purchase of the 993, but as nice as those cars are, I knew what I have always wanted, and anything else, would not have been the same.

The BMWs are a dream to work on. Talk about a logical place for an oil filter...right next to the top of the valve cover where it is easy to get to and pointing the right way so that there is no mess.

Sorry, I didn't mean "maintenance" ...I did mean repairs. Just telling you what a factory tech sees, all too often, over the years, and with modern MBs: expensive repairs, and not infrequently.

Fortunately for most these owners, it's all under warranty (ahem, yeah, for now). And most of these owners likely don't mind too much getting the high-buck dealer loaner while theirs is in for (yet another) repair. Whatever. I guess I am clearly not in their target market ...which is fine with me.
