Boats are light, right?

Amazing how many people think "enough HP" makes a good tow vehicle when this specification is really one of the least important!

There is a local guy here (super nice I must add) who tows an original 356 Glockler or this, with a tiny trailer behind is MB S430.

It's not so much the HP but the (lack of) brakes. No surge brakes on that trailer. NWIH

Can't seem to find the towing capacity listed anywhere.

Small 16ft boat like that probably weighs in about 1800lbs-1900lbs and my guess is it is probably OK to tow something like that (being under 2000lbs) with that car. Would I do it?...NO!

I had a 1993 Ford Prode GT and hauled a large pop up camping trailer with it in college. It looked rather funny but the vehicle had no problems towing it. It weighed under 2000lbs.

Sure I would. Not sure I would pull down a wet boat ramp to launch the boat though. 250+hp sedan can tow it fine. Will stop it ok. take the skirt off. Its likely a better tow vehicle than a 15 year old F150 thats all rusted out with worn out brake drums etc etc.

I towed a 17 ft boat from Canada to Tampa down #75 behind a VW Jetta. It looked bad but it was a diesel. Tow rating in Europe is 3000 lb when trailer has brakes. 1000 without. The trailer had brakes and the package weighed about 2200 total.

Best Porsche tow was one of the original RSA owners up here 15 years ago who towed it on a single axle trailer, using a Taurus SHO. Club raced it all up and down the West Coast.

I've done this a few times. But won't do it again since I recently purchased an old SUV to do my dirty work. The total weight with trailer is a bit below 1500lb's. Who's going to flame me? BTW the car runs great.

my folks used to tow their 911 on a trailex, with a 190hp MB 450SEL. Works fine.

Nowadays though, everyone "demands" a 400hp, F350 so they can tow at 85mph, even uphills, while talking on their phone

And then you look at europe, and they are towing 1500-2500lb camper trailers with 1.6l turbo diesels.

I think the main reason most cars sold in the US don't have realistic tow ratings is because of the Lawyers (or cheap auto transmissions, not sure which), plus, it would eat away at their "truck" sales.
