^ I think what he's saying is that oil usage is a sign of worn valves.....

Since back to Day One. But the initial cars through at least the '79s puked their chain tensioners long before worn guides would become an issue. '80-'83, not so much. '84-end of torsion bar cars, nearly impossible. (But that's where flat-out oil consumption from the guide material became an issue.) Then of course they changed the whole thing on the 3.6L engine, starting with the '89 C4 and we know the rest of the story...................
