Default Belt Change - Need Help !!!

Hello,

I have a 95 with AC and as my kid was out thought it was a good time to change the belts as nobody was around. Arghh !!!

I have bought the belts from Fister and they are Porsche belts. I was able to remove them and the first belt is a bit too tight but I have put the 3 shims back on so I cannot really loosen it much. The problem is with the middle belt, it keep fraying and starts burning really bad within 3-4 seconds. I tried all kind of shims combination and even tried to reuse the old belt but nothing works.
I don't understand why it is not sitting right and fraying like that. I did not do the pulley update. I need to go to work tomorrow

Anybody has any idea what to look for?

I live in Benicia if anybody is living nearby.

Thanks !!!!

Renaud

If there are any spacers, did you put them in the correct locations again.

Looking at the parts diagrams, I do not have #18, but then I have the updated pulley.

Hi Alex,

I figured it out, and yes you are correct 18 is facing the wrong way.
It is working now, need to go to the dealer to get a new belt and button her back up.
Man that was stupid, you should have seen the smoke coming out !!!

Thanks.

Even though that isn't what I have on my Carrera since it came with the updated pulley with built-in flange, I'd like to know what went wrong.

#18 is a dished cover that is used to store spare shims, I believe. I always thought there was one on the outside only, but I see there is one between the fan pulley and the alternator pulley as well.

Maybe someone can clarify.
