12k seems crazy to me, i dont think i could charge some one that much. If i were to charge for a simalar paint job all moldings off windows out and such it would be around the 6-8k range depending if thers any kinda body work that might need to be done(dings,rock chips that sorta stuff)

I don't think it was agreed that the body would be completely stripped and delivered for paint. There are lots of variables and that is why online "estimates" for body and paint work can be very inaccurate at best.

I am having some paint work done on my car right now and also asked what a good paint job would cost, funny I was unofficially quoted $12K... To me it's not worth that at all. The additional work that would be needed to be done is not too far above the work currently being one (front and rear glass are out along w/ quarter panel glass). The disassembly on the remainder of the car isn't worth even close to the difference of my current cost and the quote.

Here's an estimate I got that includes a new front bumper cover and fog lamp assembly ($2000 for new parts). They would loosen the fenders etc and replace the seals as needed. The shop does cars for the local BMW dealer and is kown for quality work.
