Default has anyone successfully switched to hid lights ?

if so, how bad did i enzo ?

updating my original questions.... sorry i'm so weak in the area of HID light knowledge.

i plan to change to 993 HID lights on my Porsche 968... i don't yet have the complete headlamps... new = megabucks.... any concerns about "used" from a dismantler vs new ?... does anyone know when HID lights first appeared on any Porsche as an OE option ? and (gulp) how much did this option actually cost ?

is it cheaper to get regular 993 lamps and convert to HID rather than buy the Litronic OEM assembly ? .... did they originally come in like 4,500 or 5,000 K ? would 6,000 K look appropriate on one of our cars ? is 8,000 K too far over to the violet ?

finally does anyone know what the standard HID spec numbers (x 1000 k) are for the 997 ?

again, much thanks you all.

Many of us have switched to OEM Litronics or to non-oem HID lights. Lots of info in the archives.

If you have any specific questions, let us know.

Let the search tool be your new best friend. Good luck with it. I LOVE my HID's. Best upgrade for my car yet. Well, one of many nice upgrades actually.

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes

I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

If you think that I don't know about the little tricks you've played
And never see you when deliberately you put things in my way

Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Beacuse all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

You took advantage of my trust in you when I was so far away
I saw you holding lots of other guys and now you've got the nerve to say

That you still want me
Well, that's as may be
But you gotta stand trial
Because all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes

I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

The Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal are mine to see on clear days
You thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze

Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Beacuse all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
and miles and miles and miles

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles

Make sure you get slim ballasts so they fit in the headlight housing.

Got mine from DDM Tuning. Overpaid $10 for 4 spade connectors so get the slim std kit. I bought the 5K 35W version and couldn't be happier. Matches the LED driving lights very well.

Speaking of +1 ... be sure to get separate thin ballasts, or a bag for the hair you'll pull out screwing with the aio units.

The aftermarket HID's are a one size fits all deal. You won't have any problems.... just deciding 35W vs 55W and the color. Make sure you order the correct fitting. I assume its H1 on the 968 too.

You may also feel the need to fit chokes/capacitors, my 'previous owner fitted HIDs' suffered occasional flickering when I bought the car in June this year, i fitted a pair of 'plug and play' chokes (just 10 bucks of Ebay) and now no flickering.

I don't intend switching. Provided they do the job I don't care what my lights look like or how bright they seem to other drivers.

the good of oem xenon litronic: i'm thinking the "polyellipsoid (PES) reflector," as they call it, is a superior set up behind the lens.

the good of oem non-xenon: less $$$$... and i like the idea of the non-xenon lamp becuase i can choose a hotter, 6,000 K light.

do i have this right ?

Wait wait wait. You're saying you want to put 993 light assemblies on a 968? The headlights are very different and are angled differently. There was a japanese tuner that made front quarters to accommodate 993 lights on a 968 years ago.

Otherwise the 968 bulbs are like the old H4 ones and never came with PES, if I remember correctly.

dave

PS - everyone says the big ballasts won't fit in the 993 light assemblies. I've posted several pictures before of them fitting just fine.
