Default Option code 240

Hi all,

Does anyone know what modifications option 240 specifies? This is the option described as "for countries with inferior fuel". I have search the archive and there is virtually no insight into this. Does this mean that the engine is detuned? Does it mean that it runs just as well on octane 87 as 93 and has output as good any any? There have been suggestions that these are grey market cars imported to the States from elsewhere, but there appear to be a lot of them out there. Finally, should this be regarded as a great benefit, or a liability, or neither?

?????

I believe I read about this on Steve Wong's site: http://www.911chips.com/fuelsys.html...and according to him, Option 240 is only a setting on the Motronics unit.

My car has this option, and it is a California car from day one.

That sounds right. "Inferior fuel" usually means low octane so the Motronics is probably set to accomodate that more readily than the stock version. It's a mystery why Cosmics's car has it as I always thought 993s were 50 state cars, meaning there wasn't a special version sold in CA. Perhaps the original owner speced it with the 240 option because he/she worried about access to premium fuel.

If I have the 240 option, what happens if I use 102 Octane fuel (which is readily available here in Germany)? Will I get the benefit or is there a maximum that the Motronics can handle?

Isn't California a "country with inferior fuel"?

LOL. In some parts , yes. Some gas stations around here are more like Dino brewpubs than anything else. Would you like a little biodiesel with that sir? Algae or grain based?

I think this also has something to do with how they measure the octane rating here in the US. 93 octane fuel in the US is not equivalent to 93 octane in Europe.
