Default I think I'm going to be sick... (another wheel well thread)

I think I'm going to be sick from all of the Xenit that I inhaled, and I now know why people post triumphant "clean wheel well" threads. What a PITA! After two days on and off, about 6 or 7 cans of Xenit and countless pairs of blue nitryl gloves, they are pretty clean. It all started because I was changing the fan resistor and while I was down there I realized how filthy the wheel wells were. The PO lived in Kauai and everything is coated in this really fine red volcanic dirt. Add that to the beloved Cosmocrap and you've got a losing combination.

Here's an example of what they looked like before:

I ended up starting the attack with a healthy spray of Xenit (like enough to totally saturate it so that it's dripping off) and let it sit for about 20 minutes.

I sprayed it with a jet of water to get the most off that I could. Then I went with another round of Xenit, then took a plastic scraper (like you would use for spackle) and scraped for a while, trying to get as much cosmoline off as I could. Here's what came off of my right rear wheel well after a scraper pass:

After that I sprayed another round of Xenit and started attacking with a stiff coarse nylon brush. This is tough because the cosmoline gets into the bristles and ends up smearing around after a while. You have to spray xenit on the brush, then spray it with a jet of water to clean the bristles every once in a while. After most of the stuff is off, then I went with spot cleaning with Xenit and a rag. Here's what the results were:

I then cleaned up the wheel well liners and gave them a healthy dose of black plastic treatment to finish everything off. One thing I learned is that the little black plastic nuts that are used to hold the rocker panels and are very brittle after 14 years

I didn't go full tilt and Andreas-ify all the suspension components because I just didn't have the time right now. Maybe sometime in the future. And I didn't bother cleaning the cans as hopefully leaving them dirty will give me incentive to save up for Fister Ds. Here's where I left everything:

I almost forgot... I think Klaus and Dieter had a few too many at lunch the day they built my car. This is what I found when I took off the right front wheel well liner. Was bubble wrap optional in 96???

Jesus!! Well done!!

I needed some of that detail before I attacked mine. I had a similar approach in mind on the liners, which appeared caked with brake dust crapola--maybe it's cosmola?

ANDREAS: Please add or embelish as you see fit, especially on getting at the other suspension components and tools used. I'd like to get all the Tips from the Top.

What a galactic waste of time! Why don't people just drive their cars instead of pissing away time on silly stuff like this?

Why bother... my 993 took 1st place for Performance Touring at this years P Parade. Ok, touring class does not include suspension/under carriage. I drove almost 800 miles to the Parade, washed the car twice, one hand wax
sand buff, one spray on/hand buff final finish... then show time.

Just drive the car as it was suppose to be driven!!!!!
