Default The 19X12 Wheel Experiment

Finally put them on the car. No cool "artsy" shot in a park or at the track as the 19mm spacing right now is coming from a combination of '68 911 rear spacers. I dare not move the car with about one thread engaged. You certainly don't realize how much "more" there is between the two (12" GT3 305/30 v. 11" 996 Turbo 295/30) until you put them next to each other. 58.5 lbs for the 12" w/ Michelin Pilot Sport and 55 lbs. for the 11" 996 Turbo w/ Hankook V12. Can't imagine doing this as a performance advantage.............

(To stay ahead of the cracks/knocks over the purple flooring, think back to the beginnings of The Racer's Group. Picked up about 1K sq. ft. of purple for about $100. Worthwhile covering for an otherwise ugly 50+ year old garage floor.)

Performance advantage, no but I bet it looks sweet from the rear! The real killer appears to be the huge difference in circumference that worsens the already crappy gear ratios.

I'm usually a fan of stuffing the largest wheel and tire under a fender possible. However with my 993 I found that the 225/265 setup yielded handling that was so much more neutral and entertaining that anything different is no longer appealing.

We could still use another picture from the rear though!

18's are back on now, so no further pictures until I get real spacers (either the H&R bolt on, or just put longer studs on and shave down some spare 1" 930 spacers).

As far as handling, it's not the point of this car at all. It's purely a freeway cruiser and urban runaround car. On the yellow car, tire size is really secondary with all the underlying adjustability. I've run 225/235/245 front and 255/265/275/285 rear, in both various 17 and 18 inch diameters.

I had just dropped it from the jack. It's the same as when you saw it last Wed. But the car is not aggressively forward raked; I hate bump steer.

That's probably it because it didn't look high last week.

Ah, Kiwi Tile -- yep, fun to put down, fun to pick up every weekend -- as the circus moves to the next city.

I have the 19x12 on mine and H&R makes the perfect bolt on spacer. BTW...Looks great. Next time I need rear tires I'm going with 325/30/19. The hight is just like the front's. The 305's are too tall

Thankfully MY circus doesn't move.

What 305 do you have on now? The stock tires that came with mine are 305/30, and in a 19" diameter result in that ~5% greater rolling radius. So a 325/30 would be taller yet. I see there's a 305/25 from Pirelli, but at $500+ no way would I ever go that route.

(Looks like your car is the one that should be in my garage.)

So.............the H&R quickie spacers arrived, and on they went. Hardly any camber in the rear, so the right rear rubs a little over a couple of nasty bumps from the test drive. And now I can post a picture from the rear, as requested.

It went up and down the road on my two mile loop. I'll report back when I take it on a real drive. But I'll take a wild stab and say I'm probably in the bottom 1% of slowest, most understeering 993s in existence. This is a show and cruise experiment, nothing more.

Oh, and for the final faux update, I've got some calipers my cousin painted up yellow for his turbo. He ended up getting a set Seinfeld bought for his Speedster, but I guess kept the blue OE ones he spec'd with the car.

I think it looks awesome. Love the roof rack as well; what rack is that?
